In fact, I’m here to prove that not only is Castle Combe worth visiting, but it’s also the perfect place to spend a night or two in as well!

So if you’re seeking a peaceful escape to the “prettiest village in England,” here are the most charming Castle Combe hotels and holiday cottages that will transport you to a bygone time.

Castle Combe is absolutely worth visiting – and worth spending at least one night in! There are very few places that offer such a quaint village feel without being tainted by overtourism.

While tourists certainly frequent Castle Combe during the day, an overnight stay will allow you to enjoy the true peacefulness of this place both in the early morning and in the evening when crowds have thinned.

Castle Combe isn’t known for being a budget destination, but it’s also not the most expensive as compared to London, for example.  While you’ll pay a premium to stay at one of the few hotels in the village, it’s truly worth it for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Funnily enough, Castle Combe is literally nicknamed the “prettiest village in England” and it’s not hard to see why! While this description is obviously subjective, there’s something very special about Castle Combe as compared to other Cotswolds villages.

One of the most unique aspects of this English village is that it’s truly preserved in time. In fact, no new houses have been built here since the 1600s! You also won’t find any power lines running through the village and marring the historic beauty of the place.

I couldn’t imagine a more picture-perfect storybook stay in Castle Combe than the one offered at The Castle Inn.

This irresistibly charming 12th-century bed and breakfast is part of the “Exclusive Collection” along with The Manor House Hotel & Golf Club, another fantastic property on this list. It’s conveniently located in the heart of Castle Combe, right along the beloved old market square.

Inside, The Castle Inn serves up all of the cozy vibes, from its front lounge area, to its charming sitting room, to its pub (not to mention all of the delicious aromas)!

I was lucky enough to spend two delightful evenings at this bed and breakfast and can honestly say it completely fulfilled my wish list. Between the ideal location, friendly staff, and delicious menu offerings from the property’s own pub, it was the quintessential Cotswolds stay I’d dreamt about.

The Castle Inn consists of a dozen rooms brimming with storybook character. Here, you’ll find such charming details as sloping walls with exposed beams.

(And speaking of charming details, the hallway ceilings of this 12th-century property are low, so you’ll need to duck a bit if you’re blessed with height!)

One of the most memorable aspects of a stay here is the fairytale view over the surrounding houses.

As for the rest of the room, I was genuinely surprised with how spacious the bathroom was and love that it includes both a tub and a shower stall.

Without a doubt, the absolute best part of staying at The Castle Inn is simply walking downstairs to the property’s own pub located on the ground level. Here, I enjoyed some of the best eats of my entire England trip.

Fortunately, The Castle Inn Pub is one of the best dinner spots in the village. They serve mouthwatering seasonal dishes with an innovative spin. Everything is as delicious as it is aesthetic!

Here, I enjoyed everything from a pub-style burger to homity pie (a delicious first for me)!

Frankly, there wasn’t a single thing here I didn’t like.

Breakfast is an event within itself and is included for guests. It’s served in a separate breakfast room.

In addition to buffet offerings like cereal, fruit, and yogurt, you’ll also select from a delicious menu of hot offerings. I highly recommend the pancakes (my favorite!) as well as the french toast topped with fruit compote.

If you’d prefer more budget-friendly places to stay in Castle Combe that don’t skimp on charm, The White Hart is definitely one to consider.

This 3-star-traditional-Wiltshire-pub-meets-hotel features 12 charming rooms, some of which include private bathrooms.

In addition to a homemade welcome basket on arrival, guests can also enjoy a full English/continental breakfast each morning at the on-site restaurant.

The property’s popular pub features a rotating monthly menu so that guests can taste the best of what each season has to offer.

Easily the most luxurious of all the places to stay in Castle Combe, The Manor House Hotel and Golf Club is truly in a league of its own.

Set on a sweeping 365 acres of beautiful green land – including idyllic Italian gardens – this impressive 14th-century property looks like the backdrop of a Jane Austen novel.

The Manor House features 50 unique rooms from cozy and traditional spaces to spacious suites and cottages. The individually-styled accommodations offer a wonderful range of amenities from fireplaces to four-poster beds, depending on the room category.

Dining at The Manor House is an experience in and of itself. Guests can enjoy easy access to Michelin-starred Bybrook restaurant (open Wednesday through Sunday from 6:30PM – 8:30PM) as well as numerous lounges and the Full Glass Bar.

In addition, breakfast is available at an additional fee and served from 7AM – 10:30AM daily.  Afternoon tea can be enjoyed from 1-4PM in the lounges.

Those looking to get some activity in outdoors can take advantage of the property’s tennis courts as well as the 18-hole golf course, available to guests at a discounted rate.

For indoor fitness, there’s also The Loft Gym located at the golf clubhouse.

If you’re a lover of storybook architecture – which I imagine you are if you’re planning a trip to Castle Combe – then the Castle Combe Cottage will be right up your alley.

The charm of this two-bedroom/two-bathroom period home cannot be understated, from its exposed beams, to its adorably crooked staircase, to the living room fireplace. It definitely gives vibes of the Winnie-the-Pooh home on the Hundred Acre Wood!

In addition, guests will enjoy the open floor plan as well as access to a fully-equipped rustic kitchen with modern details, including a dishwasher and a microwave. There’s also the convenience of an in-unit washing machine.

Guests can also take advantage of fresh air in the holiday home’s private outdoor garden.

The highlight of this property is easily its on-site pub, which features a rotating specials board with delicious selections. Guests can also opt to add on a full English breakfast to their stay.

Situated in a darling row of storybook mews cottages within the renowned Manor House estate, Baker’s Cottage is a tucked-away treat.

Lovingly constructed toward the end of the 17th century, Fox Den Cottage is a lovely split-level property spread out over three floors.

It’s located a 10-minute walk from Market Cross in central Castle Combe and makes the perfect escape for those looking to be somewhat removed from the main action while still enjoying close access.

Featuring three bedrooms, this idyllic holiday home is perfect for families, friend groups, and couples seeking additional space.

Guests can prepare their own meals in the property’s fully-equipped kitchen featuring a dishwasher and oven.

There’s also a lovely enclosed garden with a small pond for those looking to spend some time outdoors.

While there aren’t a ton of available places to stay in Castle Combe, what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality charm. I’d highly encourage you to spend at least one night here to fully experience this storybook gem before getting on with the remainder of your Cotswolds itinerary.
